This ultimate spec model came packing two new PAF ('Patent Applied For') humbuckers, a tune-a-matic bridge and stop tailpiece, and a translucent cherry sunburst finish. The company needed something that would compete with the hugely popular Fender Stratocaster. In terms of how they sound – I find the Standard to be a little bit brighter, and somehow harmonically richer (though that could well be due to differences in wood and build). The difference? Classic looks, coil splitting and built–in Turbo Boost, in a full–bore Les Paul at an incredible price.
